Although Guadelest is touristy, its surroundings are still very unspoilt and in this area you can do endless hiking, rock climbing and cycling. I am personally very charmed by this area and feel very much at home and enjoy coming here. The Guadelest reservoir located behind the village is iconic for the valley it lies in. There are some nice sleepy villages in this area where you notice very little of the hustle and bustle of the coast, which is really just a stone's throw away.
The village of Guadalest itself is perched on top of a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 595 m. and is visited by hundreds of thousands of people every year, very close to the Mediterranean Sea and its beaches. The village and the valley are framed by the Xortà and Serrella mountain ranges to the north (1,379 m high) and the Aitana mountain range (1,559 m high) to the south. The village is accessed through a tunnel excavated in the same rock that serves as the entrance to the medieval village. There is a direct municipal bus from Benidorm every day. The annual number of tourists reaches two million visitors.
